The Magic of Ivan Amodei: Intimate Illusions

The Magic of Ivan Amodei

Magic at the Mayflower

There's entertainment, and then there's entertainment. Magic qualifies as the latter in my book: Nothing comes close to a properly executed performance of illusion, especially when orchestrated by a master showman. Say showman, and my mind automatically gravitates to Hollywood and Las Vegas. Ivan Amodei has been dazzling audiences for the past three years at the luxurious Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, a few years removed from a regular stint at the world famous Magic Castle. The Sicilian-born, Brooklyn-raised Amodei visits Washington, DC next month for a special five-show engagement at the historic Mayflower Hotel.

One reason this show is perhaps my most eagerly anticipated of 2013, is the way it's setup. For starters, Amodei doesn't use a stage: Given the show's intimate quarters, he's literally amongst his audience (yes, you may be called upon to assist... Hollywood, here you come.) The show is accompanied by a concert cellist, providing an unmatched ambiance (You weren't expecting nearby DC Improv, were you?)

The Magic of Ivan Amodei: Intimate Illusions has recently played to sold-out performances in Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. Of course, the nation's capital is the next (most?) logical destination for someone as uniquely talented as Amodei. Tickets are still available for two 90-minute shows on Friday, September 13th (7:00 and 9:30 PM) and three performances on Saturday, September 14th (4:00, 7:00 and 9:30.) Click here to purchase online. General admission tickets are only $65, and front-row seating is available for just $10 more. Dress to impress, and put a little magic in your weekend. Shows like this don't come very often.
