Booey's Platter |
It took me less than 24 hours to find my way back to Booeymonger in Bethesda. Why so soon? Breakfast, of course... Specifically Booey's Platter, a hearty plate of morning goodness for the low, low price of $5.25.
Booey's scores points for late breakfast service... until 11:30 AM Monday-Friday, noon on Saturdays and 1:00 PM on Sundays. 1:00? We're getting dangerously close to brunch hours. I visited around 10:45 AM, and almost had the whole restaurant to myself. Service was quick and courteous: The aforementioned Booey's Platter is a steal of a deal, considering all you get... 2 eggs, bacon, ham or sausage, home fries and your choice of a buttered bagel or toast. I chose scrambled eggs, bacon and toast with a complimentary cup of water.
This morning's atmosphere was uniquely relaxing: It's not often that Booey's isn't crowded. An hour before the lunch rush = the perfect time to visit. My order took no time at all to prepare, and I was especially pleased that the cashier called my number, then proceeded to deliver my order to my table. I met her halfway, and thanked her profusely. Great service.
Back at my tidy table (the dining area is very clean) I got to work on a steaming plate of food (is there anything more appetizing than a visibly hot plate of food?) Two slices of buttered toast topped a large portion of home fries, alongside 3 1/2 crisp, delicious pieces of bacon. The potatoes were underdone, and hard to eat. Keep the salt and pepper close at hand... they're low on flavor too. My eggs were a tad overdone, but still tasty. Booey's bacon is definitely the star of the meal!
I had to cut my meal short (i.e. eat faster, I don't like to toss away breakfast) a couple of minutes past 11, when dozens of kids from nearby BCC High School literally invaded the place (and another summer bites the dust.) So much for my unique relaxation. At least I squeezed in a good breakfast, before I left.
