Women's Lacrosse: American 16 Holy Cross 8

Alex Lugovina (#15) scores five goals

Eagles Win Conference Opener, 16-8 Over Holy Cross

The American women's lacrosse team overcame a slow start (down 3-0) and rallied to dominate Patriot League foe Holy Cross 16-8 in front of an announced crowd of 207 at Jacobs Field yesterday afternoon. Alex Lugovina scored five goals on a team-high nine shots to lead AU, to go along with hat tricks by fellow starters Kimberly Collins and Jordan Harrington. AU improves to 2-6, 1-0 with the win... not bad, after losing their first six games of the season.

Lugovina got the Eagles on the board with her first goal 7:48 into the first half. From there, AU outscored the Crusaders 16-5, including the final four goals of the half (and 7-2 in the second.) American outshot their opponents 19-10 in the first half (and 31-17 for the entire game.) Defensively, Eagles freshman goalkeeper Teal Harrison came up with five saves, including three in the second half. Kudos also to a raucous crowd, who provided the home team with plenty of support (AU lacrosse fans really get into it.)

Samantha Marshall (#4) led AU with three assists

AU travels to Colgate next Saturday, before returning home to host nationally ranked Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, March 27th. Wouldn't it be great to win six in a row (or even more?) After today's performance, that's hardly a stretch.

Emily Maher (#3) led all players with seven draw controls
