UDC Ends 5-Game Losing Streak, Routs Molloy

UDC's Denikka Brent hits 6 of 8 FTs in win over Molloy

The last five games have not been kind to head coach Lester Butler and his UDC lady Firebirds. Five consecutive losses (by margins of 11, 20, 16, 9 and 5) have turned a solid 6-5 start into a 6-10 debacle. So imagine the smile on coach Butler's face after watching UDC beat up on visiting Molloy yesterday 73-52 in front of an appreciative crowd at the University Sports Complex.

Denikka Brent and Janelle Junior each scored 12 points to lead the Firebirds. Julissa Anderson added 11; and 5'2 point guard extraordinaire Teara Shaw chipped in 9 assists with a pair of steals. UDC raced out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. They led at halftime 36-26, and held the Lions to a woeful 28.3% shooting for the game. Junior Kelly Guerriero came off the bench to lead Molloy with 12 points, including four 3-pointers.

Perhaps the biggest star of the game was UDC's head coach. Butler's boundless energy and constant instruction kept his team exactly where they needed to be... in attack mode. Shaw moved the ball at will, and Junior made all three of her shots from beyond the arc to pace a balanced attack. Well done.
