DC Shot of the Day: George Washington on Horseback

Look around the District and you'll find no shortage of statues honoring our nation's first president: In case you didn't know it, George Washington was 'kind of a big deal.' My favorite monument lays in the shadows of the Washington National Cathedral, at the foot of the Pilgrim Steps.

George Washington on Horseback (by equestrian sculptor Herbert Hazeltine) stands atop a 15-foot pedestal of pink Salisbury granite near the entrance to the Olmsted Woods. Click here for a map of The Bishop's Garden. I took this shot just before sundown.
