Bibliophiles Descend on National Mall

The National Mall was transformed into a literary tent city for this weekend’s National Book Festival, as book lovers were treated to special appearances and signings by such noted authors as Michael Connelly, Patricia Cornwell, Jeffrey Eugenides, Walter Isaacson, Jewel, Elizabeth Dowling Taylor and David & Julie Nixon Eisenhower. And that was just Saturday's lineup.

Sunday features signings by Rep. John Lewis, Thomas Mallon, historian David O. Stewart and Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa. Former First Lady Laura Bush hosted the first National Book Festival back on September 9, 2001: President and Mrs. Obama have served as honorary co-chairs since 2008. The 13th annual festival (which drew over 200,000 visitors last year) reopens tomorrow at noon through 6:00 PM.
