Ghostbusters Movie Review

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon & Leslie Jones (r) star in Ghostbusters

Suck It!

Rotten Tomatoes PlotGhostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today - Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they're here to save the world!

McCarthy asks, "Are you ready to find some ghosts?" Is it politically correct to answer no? Feig's Ghostbusters offers little-to-nothing new, save for the novelty of an all-female ghost-catching crew and millions more in useless special effects. There's a few funny moments (Hemsworth, Jones) but a secondhand story isn't enough to hold one's interest over 116 minutes. Neither is the sensory overload we're forced to endure over the final half an hour or so. With so much talent at Feig's disposal, I expected (a lot) more. Isn't it be better to reinvent instead of recycle? Evidently not. Cue uninspired sequel(s.)
