Geoffrey Zakarian to Open First-Ever DC Restaurant at Trump International Hotel, Washington, DC

Highly acclaimed chef to lease and operate “The National,” at iconic Old Post Office, scheduled to open in mid-2016

The Trump Organization and Zakarian Hospitality announced today that world renowned chef, Geoffrey Zakarian, will open his first restaurant in Washington, D.C. in the forthcoming Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C., one of the newest additions to the rapidly growing Trump Hotel Collection. Zakarian, along with partner Louis Ceruzzi, will bring The National, an American bistro, to the hotel, slated to open in mid-2016 after a $200 million redevelopment of the historic Old Post Office by The Trump Organization.

“Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C. will be one of the finest hotels in the world and we’ve tapped culinary partners who, too, are the very best in the business,” said Donald J. Trump. “We’re thrilled to announce that Geoffrey Zakarian will open his very first Washington, D.C. restaurant in our hotel, offering both guests and residents truly exceptional cuisine and an unrivaled hospitality experience.”

Like Zakarian’s New York location, The National at Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C. will serve modern bistro cuisine, featuring American dishes prepared with French techniques, and offer a full menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Zakarian and Ceruzzi will lease and operate the restaurant space, which will be located prominently on the corner of 12th and Pennsylvania Avenue and directly accessible from both the hotel’s grand lobby and Pennsylvania Avenue. The restaurant will also offer outdoor dining in front of the hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue, adjacent to the famous Benjamin Franklin statue.

"The Trumps are world class developers and hoteliers with an unparalleled commitment to excellence, and I am honored to work with them on such an iconic project in the heart of Washington, D.C. With this historic backdrop, my goal is to create a place where neighbors, residents and travelers alike can come anytime of day to experience a warm and generous approach to food and dining,” said Geoffrey Zakarian.

“The Old Post Office in Washington, D.C. is the perfect location for The National,” said Louis Ceruzzi. “I look forward to bringing this incredible restaurant to one of the greatest cities in America.”

The National is the newest restaurant concept selected for Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C. The Trump Hotel Collection previously announced that the award-winning chef José Andrés will open a signature restaurant in the hotel. Andres will lease and operate a flagship restaurant to be located in the building’s dramatic grand lobby. He will also create the food & beverage menu for the lobby bar and a signature banquet menu.

“With the addition of Geoffrey Zakarian, a well-established New York-based chef and restaurateur known for his sophisticated taste and signature style, Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C. will have two culinary leaders, offering the best of New York and the best of Washington, D.C.,” said Donald Trump Jr., Executive Vice President of Development and Acquisitions for The Trump Organization. “We’re thrilled to have both Geoffrey and José on our team as we develop what will be the finest hotel in the nation’s capital.”

The landlord was represented by Jeffrey Pollak of Streetsense and the tenant by Kim Mogull of Mogull Realty.

Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C. will feature 270 richly furnished guest rooms with lofty 16-foot ceilings, soaring windows, beautifully restored historic millwork, and glittering crystal sconces and chandeliers as well as a 5,000 square-foot super luxury spa and state-of-the-art fitness center. Additionally, two extraordinary Presidential Suites will be located in the historic former offices of the Postmaster General; at 3,500 and 5,000 square feet, the three-bedroom suites will be among the largest in the country. The hotel will also offer 36,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including the opulent 13,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, the largest among D.C.’s luxury hotels.
