The Odyssey Twitter/X Movie Review

Matt Damon & Zendaya (r) star in The Odyssey

The Peregrination

IMDb Plot: After the Trojan War, Odysseus (Matt Damon) faces a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and Calypso along the way. Directed by Christopher Nolan.

Christopher Nolan's @odysseymovie is many things. 1st & foremost, it's a spectacle... a collection of grandiloquent scenes that doesn't necessarily fit well together. Some are gorgeous, while some feel hurried/incomplete. For every good (Matt Damon, Homer's original epic, Hoyte van Hoytema's cinematography) there's a bad (almost every other actor in it, Nolan's adaptations, the sound 📢) and those inconsistencies make it hard to overpraise. Fear not moviegoers, almost every other "critic" is bound to gush over it. However, gushing isn't love, so tread lightly. It has several strong moments, but you have to sit through almost three hours (and some (very) suspect acting & casting) to get through it. That's a tall ask, but it's the price we pay to (hopefully) see something truly special. The Odyssey isn't special per se, but it's still worth (some of) your time.

Grade: C+ (Makes you appreciate @GameOfThrones even more.)
