Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Movie Review

Phoebe Mary Waller-Bridge & Harrison Ford (r) star in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

History's Greatest Moment?

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Daredevil archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) races against time to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history. Accompanied by his goddaughter, he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller, a former Nazi who works for NASA. Directed by James Mangold.

Starring: Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen.

What's Good: Waller-Bridge's Helena Shaw declares, "Indiana Jones. Out with a bang (and) back in the saddle!" Amen to that. Ford shows that 80 is the new... 50? 60? He admits, "My memory's a little fuzzy," but this latest version of an "aging grave robber" shows very little in terms of actual wear and tear. The opening scene is incredible, and the rest? A fond farewell (?) to one of Hollywood's true heroic characters.

What's Not: There's way too many chase scenes, eclipsed only by a multitude of closed fit knockout punches (that never result in broken hands.) It's also about 30 minutes too long. That said, I'll overlook it given it's Indy's (possible?) last ride.

Budget: $323 million

Runtime: 154 minutes (Tough ask.)

Target Audience: Really? Take a guess.

Bottom Line: Indy fans are gonna love the fifth installment. It easily erases the unfortunate memories of 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and gives moviegoers a reason to go back to the theater for high-octane high jinks with a generous dose of nostalgia and a few sprinkles of "Wow!"
