Georgetown Volleyball Announces 2022 Schedule Presented by MedStar Health
Georgetown University's volleyball team has released its 2022 schedule presented by MedStar Health, as announced by Head Coach David Heller on Tuesday. Along with its traditionally-challenging BIG EAST Conference slate, the Hoyas host a pair of local tournaments in addition to competition on both coasts in non-conference play.
"We are really excited with this schedule," Heller said. "We return a great core from last year with a lot of experience in all positions and just one new student-athlete on the team. We are looking to build consistency in the preseason tournaments before heading into the tough BIG EAST season. We have some challenges to really honor the work the team has put in during the last year and competing against several teams with postseason experience. We are going to be ready for the challenges and excited to have fans, family and alumni in the stands."
Georgetown opens the 2022 campaign with the annual DC Challenge, welcoming American, New Orleans and Howard to the Hilltop the weekend of August 26-27. The Hoyas follow that up the next weekend with a trip up to Long Island where they face Maryland, South Florida and the host Seawolves at the Stony Brook Invitational from September 2-3.
Returning to the District, the Blue & Gray welcomes Rider, Binghamton and George Washington to the Nation's Capital from September 9-10 for the Hoya Invitational before closing out nonconference play with back-to-back matches at UC Santa Barbara the weekend of September 16-17. The latter trip is the first for the Hoyas to California since the playing in the Cal State Fullerton Classic in 2014.
Opening BIG EAST play on the road, the Hoyas play at Creighton on September 23 with a trip to Xavier two days later on September 25. Three matches in six days open the home slate as GU welcomes Seton Hall and St. John's to McDonough Arena on September 30 and October 1, respectively, before battling Villanova in the lone home midweek match on October 5.
A trip to Butler on October 7, followed by a road swing up I-95 against Providence and UConn the weekend of October 14-15, leads to a four-match homestand over the course of the next two weeks on the Hilltop. Georgetown faces Xavier and Creighton the weekend of October 21-22 before taking on UConn and Providence the weekend of October 28-29.
Road warriors in November, the Hoyas play five of their final six matches away from the friendly confines of McDonough Arena. The Blue & Gray open the month with matches at Marquette and DePaul the weekend of November 4-5 before a midweek showdown against Villanova on November 10.
Senior Day for the Hoyas is against Butler on November 13 before wrapping up the regular season at Seton Hall and at St. John's the weekend of November 18-20.
Georgetown returns 18 letterwinners from the 2021 campaign and bring in just one newcomer to the roster for 2022.
