Midway Movie Review

Dennis Quaid stars in Midway

Every Battle Needs a Miracle

Rotten Tomatoes PlotMidway centers on the Battle of Midway, a clash between the American fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy, which marked a pivotal turning point in the Pacific Theater during WWII. The film, based on the real-life events of this heroic feat, tells the story of the leaders and soldiers who used their instincts, fortitude and bravery to overcome the odds. Directed by Roland Emmerich.

Starring: Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, Darren Criss and Woody Harrelson

What's Good: It cost under $100 million to produce. Other than that...

What's Not: Abysmal acting (Skrein, Jonas & Quaid in particular) horrific writing (Wes Tooke, "I'm going to powder my nose... quickly") and piss-poor direction (Emmerich, and his ugly habit of pasting together 20-second scenes with zero instinct/skill.) I could go on and on, but why bother? This is why (some) people don't go out to the movies anymore.

Budget: $59.5 million

Runtime: 138 minutes (Too long? Take a guess.)

Target Audience: A fool and his/her money are soon parted.

Bottom Line: Skrein's performance (and woeful Jersey accent) is one of the worst in recent memory. Almost as bad as Dennis Quaid's rash... or the comically cheesy visual effects (Scanline VFX.) This movie sucks.

Grade: F
