Gemini Man Movie Review

Will Smith and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (r) star in Gemini Man

Family Reunion

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move. Directed by Ang Lee.

Starring: Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, and Benedict Wong

What's Good: Smith embraces his older self, while still managing to charm and entertain. Trouble is, David Benioff, Darren Lemke and Billy Ray's woeful script doesn't afford the two-time Oscar nominee a chance to rise above the ashes. He deserves better.

What's Not: Cloning. "It's complicated, but doable." There's nothing complicated about Gemini Man. It's easy to predict, and relatively dull, especially when anyone besides Will Smith is on screen. Winstead? Stiff and bor-ing. Owen? Stiff and (really) old. Wong? Have you heard the expression, "Square peg in a round hole?" Poor casting + story = box office bomb.

Budget: $138 million

Runtime: 117 minutes

Target Audience: Fans of Will Smith. Fans of Mary Elizabeth Winstead (just kidding.)

Bottom Line: With all due respect to Mr. Smith, I fell asleep not once, not twice, but three times at an afternoon screening. Enough said.

Grade: D+
