Volleyball Sweeps Howard for Winning Weekend

Six Colonials register at least five kills

GW volleyball opened Saturday's match with nine straight points and never looked back in a three-set sweep of Howard to close out the DC Challenge at the Smith Center.

GW 3, Howard 0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-21)

Skylar Iott (#6) led app players with 11.5 points & 9 kills

Key Stats:
• GW was strong offensively all day, hitting .271 with just 12 attack errors in 96 attempts. Six different Colonials contributed to a balanced attack with at least five kills.

• Senior Skylar Iott finished a kill shy of her third straight double-double to open the season, ending up with nine kills and 10 digs.

Senior Setter Jaimeson Lee led all players with 29 assists

• Senior Jaimeson Lee had an incredible all-around effort with 29 assists, five kills, six digs, five block assists and a solo block.

• Iott and Lee were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts.

How it Happened:

Caroline Sklaver (#11) added 9.5 points & 5 block assists

Set 1: GW 25, Howard 13
• The Colonials started off the day on a 9-0 run and never looked back, cruising to the decisive victory.

Freshman Middle Blocker Addie Feek (#4) scored 9.5 points

• GW racked up 4.5 blocks and forced nine Howard attack errors while holding the Bison to a -.026 hitting percentage.

Opposite Paty Valle (#15) added 9.5 points

Set 2: GW 25, Howard 21
• Trailing 16-11 in the set, the Buff & Blue roared back and finished the stanza on a 14-5 binge to claim the set.

• Lee contributed to all four of the Colonials' blocks in the set and notched an ace as part of the run.

Libero Bella Bowman (#3) tied for a team-best 13 digs

Set 3: GW 25, Howard 21
• A huge block in the middle of the set from first-year Addie Feek and Lee swung the momentum, as GW broke open a back-and-forth set to close out the win.

Junior Libero Sydney Welch tied for a team-high 13 digs

• Iott continued her excellence with five kills in the final set, also adding three digs and a block.

Sophomore Setter Heather Merryman (#9) registered 2 digs

Up Next:
• The Colonials return to action with the Hurricane Invitational next weekend in Coral Gables, Florida. GW opens the tournament on Friday night against the host Miami at 7:30 PM.
