Angel Has Fallen Movie Review

Gerard Butler stars in Angel Has Fallen

An Old Way Forward

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: When there is an assassination attempt on U.S. President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), his trusted confidant, Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), is wrongfully accused and taken into custody. After escaping from capture, he becomes a man on the run and must evade his own agency and outsmart the FBI in order to find the real threat to the President. Desperate to uncover the truth, Banning turns to unlikely allies to help clear his name, keep his family from harm and save the country from imminent danger. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh.

Starring: Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Tim Blake Nelson, Piper Perabo, Nick Nolte, and Danny Huston

What's Good: Nothing... until a hilarious post credit scene at a zero gravity center. If you somehow manage to sit through/survive the two-hour movie, make sure to stick around for a bonafide brilliant visual. It literally saved this review from a failing grade.

What's Not: Manning's doc tells him, "You're a disaster waiting to happen." The star of 300 looks old & frail, and incapable of protecting anyone, yet alone the President of the United States. Speaking of, at what point does Freeman, 82, stop playing the leader of the free world (and consider a well-deserved retirement?) Toss in one of the dumbest, most ludicrous stories since... London Has Fallen (without the unintentional laughs) and it's no wonder I hated it.

Budget: $80 million

Runtime: 121 minutes

Target Audience: No clue. Fans of the first two movies?

Bottom Line: How does something this bad cost $80 million to make? One can only hope pray this is the end.

Grade: D
