Albion (14-4) was the champion of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and recipient of the league's automatic bid. The Britons are making their second appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship and first since 2015. They finished 7-1 in the MIAA, defeating Hope in the championship game on Saturday.
Mount Union (17-1) was the winner of the Ohio Athletic Conference for the sixth consecutive year while finishing league play unbeaten for the second-straight. The Purple Raiders began playing women's lacrosse in 2013 and are 4-5 in five previous NCAA tournament appearances.
