Brightburn Movie Review

Jackson A. Dunn stars in Brightburn

Take the World

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? Stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones and Meredith Hagner. Directed by David Yarovesky.

Brandon's classmate/crush declares, "Smart guys end up ruling the planet." Promising words, but that's before we discover Superboy wannabe's true disposition. Trust me, this isn't your parents Superman. He closer resembles a pint-sized Bizarro or (even worse) the creepy kid from We Need to Talk About Kevin. It has a low-budget feel, but Banks is terrific; and the special effects are convincing, with lots of bonafide scary (and surprisingly violent) moments. Not for the faint of heart, but this critic greatly appreciates the fresh approach. Hopefully James Gunn & family keep it going with 2021's Suicide Squad sequel.

Grade: B
