Murray holds 45 singles career titles, including two from Wimbledon (2013 and 2016) and one from the U.S. Open (2012.) He is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist from the London and Rio de Janeiro games. He reached World No. 1 in 2016, held that position until August 2017, and is expected to return to the sport from injury this spring.
“We are thrilled and honored to have Andy return to DC as we celebrate a milestone anniversary,” said Donald Dell, Citi Open chairman and co-founder. “The level of talent in our player field shows how important the Citi Open is for players to earn points to remain competitive in the Tour calendars. The 50th edition of the Tournament will be greatly enriched by Andy’s competitiveness, and what a privilege it is for our fans to watch him in action.” “Murray is a phenomenal addition to this year’s Citi Open, and we’re looking forward to the energy he will bring to the tournament’s 50th edition this summer,” said Tina Davis, Managing Director of Global Sponsorships and Marketing, Citi. “Murray, and the other world-class players who have committed to playing at this year’s tournament, will bring exciting tennis to fans and help raise awareness for the incredible work of the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation, an organization that Citi is proud to support through our sponsorship of the Citi Open.” The Washington tournament has been Washington, DC’s premier tennis event since 1969 and benefits the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF), the tournament’s non-profit owner and beneficiary. The organization provides underserved children in the DC-area with a safe environment to learn critical life skills both on and off the courts through academic and athletic enrichment. Founded by Donald Dell and John Harris, the Washington tournament celebrates its 50th edition in 2018. The Citi Open Tennis Tournament is one of only 13 elite ATP World Tour 500-level events worldwide and the only one held in the United States. The tournament also features a WTA International Tournament, which provides fans the opportunity to watch simultaneous competitions of both world-class men’s and women’s tennis throughout the nine-day event. It is one of only five U.S. tournaments that include both men’s and women’s fields. Main draw matches of the tournament will be broadcast starting Monday, July 30, on Tennis Channel. Ticket packages and all single session tickets are available now.
