The American University women's lacrosse team fell in its 2018 Patriot League opener to Bucknell on Sunday, 15-9.
The Eagles enter the rest of the conference season with a 3-6 overall record (0-1 PL) while the Bison rise to 2-5 overall (1-0 PL.)
Senior Leah Brennan led the team with three goals off of five shots, good for her second-highest scoring output of the season and second career hat trick.

Senior Lexi Perez and freshman Peyton Smith each added two goals while sophomores Izabella Jade and Amanda Medjid added one apiece. Smith joined Brennan with three points for the afternoon after contributing an assist. Sophomore Erica Skowron and Medjid also added an assist each.

Brennan also led the team with eight draw controls, tying her career-high from earlier this season while juniors Casey Aguilar-Gervase and Fiona Geier each picked up a team-high three ground balls.

Geier led the team from the net with six saves off of 17 shots, followed by sophomore Ana Freda who collected four saves off eight shots in 21 minutes of play.

Eight players contributed to Bucknell's final score, starting with a three-goal effort from Tegan Warren. Mary Margaret Kenney, Eve Lukowski, Morgan Steinhacker, Sarah Galzerano and Kate Fiore all scored two goals while Audrey Walsh and Lillie Hunt added one each.
