Men's Basketball Handles Fairmont State in Exhibition, 86-63
Colonials get 21 points from Jair Bolden and Yuta Watanabe
In a billing that pitted GW freshman guard Justin Mazzulla against his older brother Joe in his coaching debut for Fairmont State, the younger brother saw his squad emerge victorious on a pair of 21-point efforts from senior swingman Yuta Watanabe and sophomore point guard Jair Bolden.
The Colonials claimed the 86-63 victory by virtue of an efficient team offensive performance (31-of-59 FG, 52.5%) combined with a stifling defensive effort that yielded just a .349 shooting clip from the Fighting Falcons. GW also connected on half of its three-point tries, led by Bolden's 2-for-2 from behind the arc, and sunk 20-of-26 free throws (.769) paced by Watanabe who banged a dozen freebies in a whopping 15 tries.
Grad student Patrick Steeves joined his teammates in double figures with 10, while sophomore Arnaldo Toro almost double-doubled with eight points and a game-high tying 11 rebounds, along with a team-high three assists. Watanabe did the double-double deed by securing 11 caroms of his own.

"We're still figuring each other out," said head coach Maurice Joseph, who has nine new players on his team. "We have the benefit of being versatile, playing four guards with Yuta at the '4' some. We got to look at different lineups, run different sets, and I'm happy we handled their full-court pressure. Overall, I'm happy with some of the things we got to see."

Freshman Terry Nolan Jr. earned the start in his collegiate debut and accumulated six points with two steals on the other end. GW also got 20 combined points off the bench all from newcomers in freshman Maceo Jack (7), Mazzulla (6), grad transfer Bo Zeigler (4), and walk-ons Luke Sasser (2) and Jack Granger (1.)

Vonte Montgomery led Fairmont State with 13, while Andrew Emrick (11) and Kenzie Melko (10) also netted double-figures.
Today's game served as a prelude for the anticipated season opener on Friday night, November 10th at 7:30 PM against District foe Howard.
