American Men's Basketball Defeats VMI 69-64 in Home Opener

Larry Motuzis scored 21 of his season-high 26 points in the second half as American University defeated VMI, 69-64, on Saturday in a non-conference men's basketball game at Bender Arena.

The Eagles, playing their home opener, are now 2-3 overall after winning back-to-back games. The Keydets are also 2-3 following the loss.

Sa'eed Nelson (#0) scored 21 points with five rebounds & four assists

Sa'eed Nelson finished with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Eagles, who also got 10 points from CB Diallo.

CB Diallo (#10) added 10 points, 3 rebounds & 2 assists

Tyler Creammer led VMI with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Greg Parham scored a dozen points off the bench.

The Eagles, who led 35-29 at halftime, opened as much as a 13-point advantage early in the second half. VMI cut the lead to 53-51 with 8:25 remaining but were never able to pull even.

Freshman Jesse Little led all players with 4 assists

American used an 8-1 run in the final 3:30 to put the game away.

Frosh Marvin Bragg (#13) grabbed 6 rebounds

AU plays next at St. Francis, Pa., on Wednesday, November 29. The Eagles' next home game is Saturday, December 9 at 4 PM against Howard.
