Goldberg Receives Contract Extension

AU Volleyball Head Coach Barry Goldberg

From our friends at AU Athletics...

American University volleyball head coach Barry Goldberg has received a five-year extension on his contract, AU Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Billy Walker announced Wednesday.

Goldberg, who is in his 29th season directing the Eagles, will patrol the Bender Arena sidelines through 2023. Goldberg is now 714-257 (.736) overall and has led AU to 14 Patriot League championships in the 16 seasons the Eagles have been a member of the league.

"I'm honored that American University has allowed us to be here for this length of time," said Goldberg. "It's truly been a great time working, coaching and learning from everyone here at AU.

"American University has been a great home for my family and I, and we're really thankful to Billy Walker, President Burwell, and all the presidents and athletic directors we've served under."

"Any coach in my position also appreciates the work of the tremendous assistant coaches and student-athletes we've had the privilege of working with over the years. It's a special feeling that our student-athletes have entrusted their collegiate experience with our program and our prestigious university."

Goldberg came into the 2017 season 10th on the list of victories by active NCAA Division I coaches with 704 and 11th on the list of winning percentage.

"Barry Goldberg personifies AU Volleyball," said Walker. "He built a nationally respected program from scratch, and has represented American University with dignity, class, and character for three decades.

"Barry is not only revered in our department as the dean of our coaching staff, but he's universally respected across campus for the manner in which he runs his program. We are extremely excited to have Coach Goldberg signed well into the future."

Goldberg and the Eagles will host Princeton, Iowa and Howard in the American Volleyball Classic on Friday and Saturday.
