Wind River Movie Review

Elizabeth Olsen & Jeremy Renner (r) star in Wind River

The Land of Your Own

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Wind River is a chilling thriller that follows a rookie FBI agent (Elizabeth Olsen) who teams up with a local game tracker (Jeremy Renner) with deep community ties and a haunted past to investigate the murder of a local girl on a remote Native American Reservation in the hopes of solving her mysterious death. Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan, Wind River also stars Gil Birmingham, Jon Bernthal, Julia Jones, Kelsey Chow, and James Jordan.

"This isn't the land of backup. This is the land of... you're on your own." Solitude is one of many obstacles Olsen and Renner have to overcome in Sheridan's sterling directorial debut Wind River. It starts off kinda slow (character development > action) before literally erupting in the final 30 minutes. Said eruption comes out of nowhere, and be warned... it's brutal (parental discretion is strongly advised.) Kudos to cinematographer Ben Richardson, Sheridan and a superb cast (particularly Renner and the vastly underrated Graham Greene.) Easily one of the best films of this summer, and maybe (just maybe) the entire year.

Grade: B+
