Wolf Warrior 2 Movie Review

Wu Jing stars in Wolf Warrior 2

Blood for Blood

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: The Wolf Warrior is back, bigger and badder than ever, in this action-packed sequel to the 2015 blockbuster hit. With his career in tatters, China's deadliest Special Forces operative has settled into a quiet life on the sea. But when he crosses paths with a sadistic band of mercenaries terrorizing innocent civilians, he must reaffirm his duty as a soldier and save the day once again. Fists (and bullets, tanks, missiles and much more) will fly in this adrenaline-fueled tour de force of bravura action filmmaking, all culminating into a climatic battle between the Wolf Warrior and the mercenary leader (Frank Grillo, Captain America: The Winter Solider and Captain America: Civil War.) Directed by Wu Jing.

I'll see your Rambo, and raise you Leng Feng (Wu Jing.) The parallels are unmistakable (including cheesy dialogue and gobs of senseless violence) but make no mistake, Wolf Warrior 2 delivers the goods (action, heroism, patriotism) while keeping the door open for another sequel or two. Some of the aforementioned dialogue is really bad, i.e. "Die scum" and "You just killed Dr. Chen!" but Jing's one man wrecking crew makes it worthwhile. Particularly good? An opening underwater assault and a bloody/furious showdown with American bad guy Frank Grillo. Overlong (by about 30 minutes) but exciting to the very end.

Grade: B-
