World No. 9 Kei Nishikori Accepts Wild Card to Citi Open Tennis Tournament to Reclaim Washington Title

2015 champion joins strongest tournament player field in recent years

Kei Nishikori, No. 9 on the ATP World Tour, returns to Washington to compete for the Citi Open Tennis Tournament title. He is the first to receive a main draw wild card to the tournament, to be held July 29 - August 6 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center.

The Japanese player wowed DC-area audiences in 2015, defeating John Isner in the final round in a thrilling three-set match. That same year, he became the highest-ranked Asian men’s singles player ever with a career-high ranking of No. 4 on the ATP World Tour. In 2014, he reached the men’s singles final at the 2014 U.S. Open.

He joins World No. 8 Dominic Thiem as the second Top 10 player in the Citi Open roster. In addition, he is the third former tournament champion to join this year’s field, along with Juan Martin del Potro and Gael Monfils. Alexander Zverev, Lucas Pouille, Jack Sock, Nick Kyrgios, John Isner, and Steve Johnson are also scheduled to play in this action-packed week.
