Books in Bloom Launched as a Columbia 50th Birthday Event

Chimamanda Adichie confirmed as headliner for Books in Bloom

The Downtown Columbia Partnership presents Books in Bloom, Columbia, Maryland’s inaugural book festival, in celebration of the city’s 50th anniversary year. Books in Bloom will bring together some of the country’s best and brightest writers for a daylong festival celebrating the joy of books and reading. Readings, panel discussions, a poetry wall and pop-up bookstore by Politics & Prose are featured.

In partnership with the Howard County Library System, Books in Bloom will launch the library’s summer reading program, Summer @ Your Library, and will include children’s craft areas, storytime corner and Feminism in YA panel with emerging authors.


WHY: The Downtown Columbia Partnership promotes and advances the growth of Downtown Columbia as a vibrant, economically robust and desirable place for employment, entertainment, living and learning. Its initiatives include supporting cultural arts programs.

The Howard County Library System is one of the most acclaimed and active systems in the country and was designated Library of the Year in 2013 by the Library Journal. In addition, Howard County is one of the most well-educated communities in the country and is well-known for its book clubs, poetry and literature organizations and literary publications.

Downtown Columbia is undergoing a transformative redevelopment by Presenting Sponsor The Howard Hughes Corporation. One of the hallmarks of the redevelopment is the repositioning of Downtown Columbia as a regional hub for culture and commerce.

WHEN: Sunday, June 11, 2017; noon - 5 PM
