DC's Shaw Neighborhood Offers Food, Fun and Freebies During Annual Open House on June 17th

From our friends at Shaw Main Streets...

Shaw Open House Returns June 17th with Family Friendly Fun and Freebies From Dozens of Neighborhood Businesses

Dozens of Shaw businesses will open their doors and offer free gifts, free samples, and free services to visitors to the neighborhood holding a Shaw Passport

Everyone from arts enthusiasts and the health conscious to  foodies, and families are invited to come to Shaw Main Streets Open House for tastes from some of DC’s best bars and restaurants and fun family-friendly experiences at distinctive retail and art establishments in central Shaw. Shaw Open House takes place on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. As part of Shaw Main Streets’ ongoing #LoveShaw promotion, Shaw Open House lets visitors experience some of what has made Shaw one of DC’s ‘it’ neighborhoods. Printed ‘passports’ usher visitors from merchant to merchant for a #shawesome afternoon.

Attendees can pick up their free Shaw Open House Passports at two designated locations, then use the passports to receive free tastes, swag, and experiences at over 20 locations. At every business visited, attendees will receive a validation sticker that allows the bearer to enter drawings for prizes, such as gift certificates, gift baskets and more from Shaw businesses, to be raffled at the Shaw Open House close-out party. The close-out party will be hosted by the newly opened French Quarter Brasserie & Oyster Bar, located at 1544 9th Street, NW. Shaw Open House is a FREE event and open to all. Attendees can look forward to an afternoon full of discounts, fun and freebies, including fun prizes for the kids, cocktail samples, lots of free bites and an array of specially curated experiences.

Some participating businesses include bars and restaurants such as Ivy and Coney, Beau Thai, Dacha Beer Garden, Espita Mezcaleria, Queen of Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant, and the upcoming Seylou Bakery & Mill; retailers such as Wagtime and Modern Liquors; fitness and wellness centers like Urban Athletic Club and District Cryo; and other establishments, such as Old City Farm and Guild and Beyond Collective. Passport pick-up locations and a full list of participants can be found at www.ShawMainStreets.org.

This event has been held since 2005, covering the entire Shaw Main Streets service area. However, now that over 300 businesses have opened in the area, Shaw Open House has been expanded to two annual events covering southern Shaw in June and northern Shaw in October. The June event includes businesses located between New York Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue and 7th & 9th Streets, NW.
