DC’s Retro Nightclub DECADES Officially Opens Rooftop Bar

The city’s hottest new rooftop features a retractable awning and will host weekly day parties, specialty drinks and throwback tunes

Retro-inspired nightclub Decades (1219 Connecticut Avenue, NW) officially opens its rooftop - complete with a retractable awning - with "Sunset Saturdays," day parties, throwback tunes and speciality cocktails just in time for Spring and Summer fun.

“Decades has become the go-to spot for partygoers of all ages,” owner and visionary Antonis Karagounis says of the Dupont club that opened last Fall. "The rooftop rounds out our original vision for Decades: to be a throwback tribute to the music we know and love, bringing back the old-school vibe of the multi-level, multi-DJ clubs that defined DC nightlife in the '90s and 2000s.”

Decades' three interior floors are dedicated and decorated to reflect the different musical eras from the 80s through the 2000s and the present. On the first level, the CD-covered DJ booth and VIP “Pop Room” pay homage to the 2000s, while the second floor is all about the '90s, decked out in arcade games and Rubik’s Cube furniture, and the gold-themed third floor takes music lovers back to the gilded age of hip-hop in the ‘80s, with an opulent, one-of-a-kind gold "Bling Room.” Seasoned veteran DJ Enferno, who has toured with Madonna and boasts a 30-year career in the nightlife industry, has helped fine-tune Decades’ sound to ensure guests are hearing authentic club hits and not just the average, old-school playlist.

Even the cocktail menu at Decades is a throwback to the past, with nostalgic favorites like Orange Crush cocktails, Jell-O shots, Goldschlager, Hypnotiq and the signature frozen drink bar. At the rooftop bar, guests can enjoy a new menu of seasonal cocktails - coconut-and-mango jalapeƱo margaritas, strawberry basil lemonade, sangria, Mai Tais and more - by the grill, which will be fired up for private parties and day events.

The rooftop will boast palm trees, assorted lush, tropical plants and greenery-covered privacy walls across the 2,500-square foot space sleekly decorated with sexy lighting, modern furniture, a DJ booth and six exclusive VIP tables for bottle service. The season of day parties at Decades kicks off Saturday, April 29, the first of many “Sunset Saturdays,” which will start at 5 PM and last all night, rain or shine, thanks to the rooftop’s retractable awning.

Decades is Karagounis’ sixth Washington nightlife venue and is a collaboration with his longtime partner Arman Amirshahi and investor Bo Biabani. Local nightlife and culture journalist Marcus Dowling assisted in crafting the venue’s concept, branding, cultural references and storytelling. Graphic artist Keneth Nyakabwa painted a series of graffiti art and murals that pay tribute to iconic images and musical genres associated with each decade celebrated in the club.
