War on Everyone Movie Review

Alexander Skarsgård & Michael Peña (r) star in War on Everyone

We Are the Police!

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Terry (Alexander Skarsgård) and Bob (Michael Peña) are two crooked cops who frame and blackmail criminals all over town. Looking for the ultimate pay-off, they try to extort a strip-club manager (Caleb Landry Jones) and his eccentric, junkie boss (Theo James) but get more than they bargained for when their hair-brained scheme uncovers a bigger, darker secret. Directed by John Michael McDonagh.

Peña asks, "I always wondered... If you hit a mime, does he make a sound?" The answer is yes, but a better question should be, "Does it even matter?" War on Everyone comes from the creative genius behind The Guard and Calvary. McDonagh's latest effort has nothing to do with Ireland, and pales in comparison to The Guard, a far more sophisticated buddy cop film with believable/likable characters. Peña and Skarsgård play asshole cops, that randomly go about their business with zero regard to normalcy (yet alone the rules.) Good for a few (mostly crude) laughs, but little else.

Grade: B-
