Deepwater Horizon Movie Review

Mark Wahlberg stars in Deepwater Horizon

A Means to a (Profitable) End

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: On April 20th, 2010, one of the world's largest man-made disasters occurred on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. Directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor), this story honors the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyone's lives forever.

Mark Wahlberg goes from taming the dinosaurs to saving the world in Deepwater Horizon, one of (if not the) best action movies of 2016. Of course, it has the benefit of being based on a real-life event; but Berg's follow-up to Lone Survivor, keeps you on the edge of your seat (despite knowing how it's going to turn out.) John Malkovich is terrific as a ruthless BP liaison, who butts heads with Wahlberg and Kurt Russell; but the real star is Berg, who delves into Michael Bay/Gareth Evans territory with his ability to build (and maintain) explosive tension. Scintillating.

Grade: B+
