Bridget Jones's Baby Movie Review

Renée Zellweger, Patrick Dempsey & Colin Firth (r) star in Bridget Jones's Baby

All By Herself

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Bridget Jones returns for this third entry in the romantic comedy series that once again features Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant. Author Helen Fielding co-wrote the script with David Nicholls, with Nicholls handling directing duties. Also stars Patrick Dempsey, Sarah Solemani and Emma Thompson.

Riddle me this, Batman: On what planet would a handsome billionaire (Dempsey) and gentleman lawyer (Firth) fight over a self-deprecating (and pregnant) Zellweger? Planet Hollywood, I suppose. Please excuse any perceived ageism, sexism or (insert your ism here) but I couldn't get past the mountain of implausibilities in Bridget Jones's Baby. If you're willing to suspend disbelief (it worked for Adam Sandler, right?) you may find some of it redeeming; but outside of a hilarious trip to the hospital, towards the end (and a lovable turn from Sarah Solemani) I was itching to leave, especially after 125 sappy/trivial minutes.

Grade: C-
