From our friends at AU Athletics...
Heading into his fourth season at the helm of the American University men's basketball, Mike Brennan has put together one of his toughest schedules as head coach of the Eagles.
"We're excited about this year's schedule and the challenges it provides. We think there's opportunity for us to learn about our team while playing a mix of traditional and difficult opponents before the holidays," said head coach Mike Brennan.
American is coming off a strong second half of the 2015-16 season that saw the Eagles win 10 of the final 14 games and upset Boston University in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.
Brennan's newest squad might look young on paper, but the team returns a core group of sophomores, including Patriot League Rookie of the Year Delante Jones.
This season, American will face seven teams that qualified for postseason in 2015-16, highlighted by a contest on December 21 against reigning NCAA Tournament Champion Villanova.
AU will start the season against four of the seven postseason tournament qualifiers, beginning at the XFINITY Center on November 11 against the Maryland Terrapins. The last meeting between American and Maryland was on December 22, 2008.
The Eagles will continue their three-game road swing at Texas A&M on November 14 and Akron on November 17.
AU will play its first of 15 home games on November 22 against Wagner. The Seahawks defeated top-seed St. Bonaventure in the opening round of the NIT. The Eagles will begin Patriot League play against local rival Loyola (Md.) on December 30.
"We're also happy about the higher number of home games, which will give our young players the chance to grow and improve in a friendly environment. Our fans will help provide an atmosphere which will set the tone for a great season of American University Basketball," said Brennan.
American will honor the AU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2017 on February 4 against Lehigh and salute the outgoing Class of 2017 against Holy Cross on February 18.
The Patriot League Tournament will begin on February 28 and conclude with the league final on March 8.
Fans can secure their 2016-17 season tickets early. Packages are priced from as low as $90 to only $225 for the best sideline chair-back seats. Season tickets are available for renewal and purchase by calling the Athletics Ticket Office at 202-885-TIXX.
Season tickets offer savings over the individual game price and guarantee fans the same great seat for all 15 home games. Season ticket-holders also receive their same seat for all league postseason games played in Bender Arena and priority ticketing for all national postseason tournament games. All AU students are free of charge to home basketball games with a valid AU ID.
