Bon Appétit Names Washington, DC "Restaurant City of the Year"

From our friends at Bon Appétit...

Bon Appétit has named Washington, D.C. its 2016 “Restaurant City of the Year.” The nation’s capital has become home to a growing number of groundbreaking and diverse restaurants that have raised the bar for culinary creativity and innovation. This year, Bon Appétit recognized three DC standouts on its annual list of the 50 nominees for the best new restaurants in America.

“DC has always had great food,” says Bon Appétit deputy editor Andrew Knowlton. “But what you’re seeing now are more restaurants with a neighborhood feel and chefs who are creating their own styles of cooking. There’s something exciting going on in the city right now that we really love.” The restaurants below are a few of Knowlton’s new favorites:

Bad Saint (3226 11th Street, NW)* Named as one of the 50 nominees
• The Columbia Room (124 Blagden Alley, NW)
• The Dabney (122 Blagden Alley, NW)* Named as one of the 50 nominees
• Kinship (1015 Seventh Street, NW)
• Pineapple and Pearls (715 Eighth Street, SE)
• Tail Up Goat (1827 Adams Mill Road, NW)* Named as one of the 50 nominees

This designation puts DC front and center as a national destination for food lovers. The Hot 10 will be revealed in Bon Appétit’s upcoming September issue and on bonappetit.com on August 16.

“Over the last five years, and especially the last two, this city has been exploding with great food,” says Aaron Silverman, chef-owner of Bon Appétit’s 2014 #1 restaurant, Rose’s Luxury.
