The Huntsman: Winter's War Movie Review

Emily Blunt & Charlize Theron (r) star in The Huntsman: Winter's War

Queen Takes King

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: Freya the Ice Queen (Emily Blunt) brings her sister Ravenna (Charlize Theron) back to life, and the powerful evil siblings plan to conquer the Enchanted Forest. Only the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and his secret lover Sara (Jessica Chastain) can stop them in this sequel continuing the inventive twist on the Snow White fable. Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. Narrated by Liam Neeson (uncredited.)

Neeson claims early on, "There's another story... one you haven't seen." Sorry Liam, but I've seen this (kind of) movie a thousand times before. The Huntsman: Winter's War is yet another failed fantasy adventure flick with plenty of pretty faces and fanciful locales, but little to no substance. It starts off well (Blunt & Theron are great) but quickly drowns in a sea of boredom, rife with cheesy special effects and laughable accents (Chastain/Hemsworth.) And to think... it cost $115 million to make, runs almost two hours and features a first-time feature director. What could possibly go wrong?

Grade: D
