Zengo Honors the Red Monkey for Chinese New Year

This February, acclaimed Chef Richard Sandoval’s colorful Latin-Asian inspired restaurant, Zengo, will celebrate Chinese New Year 2016, the honored Year of the Monkey. Located in the heart of Chinatown at 781 7th Street, NW, Zengo will be debuting three dinner specials February 5 through February 13, which represent longevity, happiness, wealth, and luck for the New Year. The featured dishes, created by Chef de Cuisine Jason Streiff, are available exclusively during dinner service. They include Peking Duck Steamed Buns with orange glaze, hoisin and leek, which stands for luck and is priced at $13; Vegetable Spring Rolls with shiitake mushrooms, won bok, carrots, bean sprouts and a sweet and sour sauce, which stands for wealth and priced at $9, as well as Shrimp Lo Mein with mushrooms, roasted red peppers, scallions and cilantro, which represents longevity and happiness and is priced at $12. The long noodles are served so that all guests at the table will have a long life.

The Monkey, or “hóu”, is the ninth sign of the Chinese Zodiac calendar, which consists of 12 animal signs. The monkey is a clever animal. In Eastern philosophy, those born in the Year of the Monkey are believed to be smart, clever and intelligent, especially in their career and wealth. They are said to be lively, flexible, quick-witted and versatile. In addition, their gentleness and honesty bring them an everlasting love life.

Zengo, located at 781 7th Street, NW, is situated directly next to the Gallery Place/Chinatown H Street Metro entrance accessible on the red, yellow and green lines. Lunch is available Monday through Friday from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and dinner is served Sunday through Thursday from 5 PM to 10 PM and Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to 12 AM.
