Women's Basketball: Scranton 84 Catholic 59

Lady Cards Downed by No. 4 Royals, 84-59

In a hard fought contest against No. 4 University of Scranton, the Catholic University of America women's basketball team fell, 84-59, in its Saturday afternoon Landmark match-up.

With the win, the Royals closes the regular season with an unblemished slate, going 25-0 overall in 2015-16 and 16-0 in the conference. The Lady Cards fall to 15-9 for the season and 10-5 in the Landmark.

4 points, 3 rebounds & 3 assists for Melissa Errico (#13)

Despite an early 24-5 deficit after the first period, the Lady Cardinals battled back, outscoring the Royals 24-21 in the second 10 minutes. Sophomore Payton Smith went 2-for-2 from outside the arch and 2-for-2 from behind the charity strip for eight points in the second period. When the buzzer sounded for the halftime intermission the scoreboard read 45-29 in favor of Scranton.

Returning to the hardwood after the intermission the Cards put up an additional 30 points, while the nationally ranked Royals tallied 39. Senior Josephine Migash sunk seven points in the second half, including 3-of-4 free throws. The undefeated Royals walked off the court with an 84-59 victory.

Collectively the Lady Cards shot 70% (14-of-20) from behind the free throw line. Migash shot for a team-high 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Smith put up 10 points, grabbed three rebounds, and made one steal.

Bernadette Launi (#11) scored 5 points off the bench

Catholic will close out its regular season Sunday, February 21, against conference opponent Merchant Marine at 4 PM, in the Raymond A. DuFour Center.
