International Art Movement, POW! WOW!, Heads to NoMa

From our friends at NoMa BID...

The NoMa Business Improvement District (NoMa BID) announced today that the last two weeks of May, this year, NoMa, the City. Smarter. neighborhood, will host POW! WOW!, a global art movement that celebrates culture, music and art in cities around the world. The name POW! WOW! was inspired from the color-filled pages of comic books. "POW!" being the impact that art has on a person and "WOW!" being the reaction that art has on a viewer. POW! WOW! began as a week-long mural event in Honolulu, Hawaii, and has grown over the last five years into a series of global events that include classes, performances and lectures in addition to live art installations.

POW! WOW! brings talented local and international artists together in partnerships with community members that enrich, beautify and enliven neighborhoods. Over the course of two weeks, the POW! WOW! festival creates exciting experiences that produce beautiful murals that will become part of the increasingly unique NoMa neighborhood experience.

"We can't wait to see the incredible art the POW! WOW! artists will create in NoMa," said Robin-Eve Jasper, president of the NoMa Business Improvement District. "This event will help each of us appreciate the marvelous character of everyday features of the neighborhood and will add an engaging new layer to the experience of residents, workers and visitors to NoMa."

Neighborhood aesthetics and creative public spaces are a major focus in NoMa. The arrival of POW! WOW! represents yet another milestone in NoMa's urban transformation and solidifies the neighborhood's place as a fun, creative destination for DC.

Sponsored by the NoMa BID and neighborhood real estate developers Kettler, MRP Realty and Skanska, POW! WOW! demonstrates the commitment these companies have to the long-term beautification and well-being of NoMa.
