District’s Largest Charity Poker Event Looks to Shatter Record

From our friends at Chance for Life...

11th Annual Chance for Life Charity Event and Poker Tournament on February 27

Hopes to break own record for raising money to fight childhood cancer

The 11th Annual Chance for Life Poker Tournament, Wine & Chef’s Tasting, and Dance Party - a star-studded charity event hosted by RedPeg Marketing - will be held Saturday, February 27 at the Sphinx Club in Washington, DC.

The all-day event is bigger and better than ever -- now consisting of a 400-person poker tournament, a Wine and Chef’s Tasting hosted by Mike Isabella Concepts, and an unforgettable dance party set to the sound of local standout band, A-Town A-List. All proceeds from the benefit support Alex’s Lemonade Stand as part of mission its to fight childhood cancer and carry on Alex’s legacy of hope.

“I started this event as a tribute to my goddaughter, Kennedy Snyder, who was diagnosed with cancer at age 2,” said Brad Nierenberg, the creator of Chance for Life and CEO of RedPeg Marketing. “When something impacts you on a personal level like Kennedy’s cancer did for me, you’ll take any opportunity to make a difference for those in the same situation. Her progress has only further inspired me to give others the chance she has. Partnering with Alex’s Lemonade Stand gives us the perfect platform to impact so many more young lives.”

Kennedy remains the inspiration for the event, bringing courage and optimism to the event every year. This year, Chance for Life welcomes another hero who demonstrates the same qualities as Kennedy - Dena Rovito. In 2004, Dena was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at five months old, an aggressive cancer often accompanied by a grueling treatment, especially for young children. Thanks to the research made possible by the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Dena was given a chance for life and is now a vibrant, cancer-free 11-year-old.

This year’s event seeks to shatter last year’s record for donations, totaling more than $150,000. In its first 10 years, Chance for Life has raised more than $1 million for pediatric cancer research. The official partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation will help make an even bigger difference this time around.
