Carol Movie Review

Rooney Mara & Cate Blanchett (r) star in Carol

Merry Christmas Boredom

IMDb Plot: In 1950s New York, a department-store clerk (Rooney Mara) who dreams of a better life falls for an older, married woman (Cate Blanchett.) Directed by Todd Haynes. Co-stars Sarah Paulson, Kyle Chandler and Jake Lacy.

Holidays got you down? In the mood for a snail-paced romantic drama, where nothing happens? Go see Carol. You're supposed to love it (Blanchett, Mara, Cannes standing ovation) but truth is... it's one of 2015's most boring films. Chandler tells Blanchett, "It shouldn't be like this," and he's right. Carol (the movie) is bland, gloomy and fails to establish any sort of "connection" between its two lead characters. Back in 1952, the very notion of a lesbian love affair was considered taboo, but not anymore. Trouble is, it's 2015... time to entertain, as well. Haynes doesn't even seem to try.
