Former White House Pastry Chefs Debut Fall Menu

From our friends at Praline Bakery & Bistro...

From the White House pastry kitchen to the pastry kitchen at Bethesda’s Praline Bakery & Bistro, Chefs Patrick Musel and Susan Limb prepare some of the finest confections in the DMV. Their bakery/bistro in the Shops at Sumner Place serves up cakes, tarts, cookies, croissants, macaroons and more - much to the delight of those who partake. As much as the bakery is among the best places in town, nestled upstairs is the bistro, which serves French-inspired dishes that are equally as delicious as the desserts and pastries downstairs. It’s worth the small trip up a staircase to get there. The bistro is a calm environment in earth tones overlooking a lovely patio deck and garden with seating for dining al fresco on temperate days.

This fall, the bistro introduces a new seasonal menu - many options, their take on classics, that will warm the belly as much as they delight the palate. For lunch, a variety of pates, charcuterie, salads, quiches, galettes, omelettes and main courses prevail. From Salmon Paillard ($20) to Poulet Grand Mere ($18) and Prosciutto galette ($16) to omelette ($14) and Frittata du jour ($14) and Salad Lyonnaise ($12), the menu features a variety of delicacies that are perfect for a midday autumn meal.

At dinner, the bistro has a variety of delicious choices with apps including garlicky escargot ($12), duck galantine ($14), sautéed sweetbreads ($14), charcuterie, pate, and more. Salads include red pepper mousse ($13), roasted beets with arugula and horseradish dressing and salad nicoise ($15). Entrees include a rich beef Bourguignon ($26), seafood feuillete ($26) and lamb stew ($24). Plats du jour are Sunday - Chef’s special; Monday - Veal kidneys; Tuesday - Calf liver; Wednesday - Dover sole; Thursday - Coq au vin; Friday - Bouillabaisse and Saturday - Cassoulet. Several sides are also available to complement the meal. Of course there is dessert - straight from the bakery downstairs - each homemade and delicious.

Praline Bakery & Bistro is located in The Shops at Sumner Place at 4611 Sangamore Road in Bethesda. It is open for lunch Monday - Friday from 11 AM to 2:30 PM; Dinner Sunday - Thursday from 5-9:00 PM and Friday - Saturday from 5-9:30 and for Saturday and Sunday brunch from 10 AM to 3 PM.
