The Visit Movie Review

Are We OK?

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: The terrifying story of a brother (Ed Oxenbould) and sister (Olivia De Jonge) who are sent to their grandparents' remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple (Deanna Dunagan & Peter McRobbie) is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day. Written & directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Shyamalan returns with a vengeance in The Visit, a fun-filled, spooky romp that breathes much-needed life into the horror genre. Funny and scary don't normally mix well; but I couldn't stop laughing throughout, while sitting precariously on the edge of my seat. The kids are "looking for visual tensions," and their hosts certainly don't disappoint. Pop Pop's "as strong as a wrestler," and Nana has sundown syndrome (among other issues) but their idiosyncrasies (especially after 9:30) are a blast to behold. I haven't had this much fun since Drag Me to Hell. Low-budget, but stylish and full of suspense.

Grade: B+
