Everest Movie Review

Jason Clarke stars/paves the way in Everest

Go Careful

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: 2 Guns helmer Baltasar Kormakur directs Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, and John Hawkes in this adventure docudrama set in 1996, when a number of simultaneous expeditions up Mount Everest resulted in the deaths of eight climbers.

"The last word always belong to the mountain," and Kormakur's Everest speaks volumes. It balances superb character development with breathtaking cinematography, and more than lives up to its lofty expectations. Despite its tragic conclusion (it's based on a true story) Everest isn't "all gloom and doom." Each actor/player is appealing to some degree, which makes the race to (and from) the top all the more compelling. Clarke is especially likable as the lead, ably supported by a top-notch cast that wisely avoids the spotlight. Still not sure why people climb; but it's a fantastic story... and even better movie.
