Z for Zachariah Movie Review

Margot Robbie & Chiwetel Ejiofor (r) star in Z for Zachariah

Two's Company, Three's a...

Rotten Tomatoes Plot: In the wake of a nuclear war, a young woman (Margot Robbie) survives on her own, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth, until she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being. A distraught scientist (Chiwetel Ejiofor) he's nearly been driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. A fragile, imperative strand of trust connects them. But when a stranger (Chris Pine) enters the valley, their precarious bond begins to unravel. Directed by Craig Zobel.

No one wants the world to end; but if it means pairing up with the effervescent Robbie, count me in! All jokes aside (actually who's joking) Z for Zachariah is I Am Legend, minus the vampires (and most of the tension.) That doesn't mean it isn't good: It is, just not as engrossing as the book. Zobel switches gears, opting for a slower and more methodical approach (not to mention a third character.) In some ways, it's better; but "it's (more) about rebuilding" than survival of the fittest. Worth seeing for Ejiofor & Robbie, and breathtaking scenery (New Zealand.)
