Georgetown Men's Basketball Departs for Italy on Friday

The Georgetown University men’s basketball team will depart for a 10-day trip to Italy on Friday, August 14 and while the Hoyas are overseas, fans will have plenty of opportunities to follow their travels.

The Georgetown players and staff will be generating content that can be found each day on the athletics website, www.GUhoyas.com. Each day throughout the trip, a blog will be included, as well as photo galleries and video featuring game highlights and touring.


Fans can keep up with the team through Twitter, following @GeorgetownHoops.

In addition, live video will be available throughout the trip as @GeorgetownHoops plans to use Periscope to bring their following along the way.

Those interested in following the Georgetown trip are encouraged to use the hashtag #SiamoGeorgetown (We Are Georgetown).

The Hoyas will visit Rome, Florence and Milan during their trip. Upon arriving in Rome, the team will have a sight-seeing tour of the city, including stops at the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. The team will also visit the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, Vatican City, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel during the weekend.

Georgetown’s first game is slated for Sunday, August 16 (6:30 PM, 12:30 PM ET) against Haukar Basketball, a professional team from Iceland. The Hoyas play their second game on Tuesday, August 18 (6:30 PM, 12:30 PM ET) against Dream Team Italy Select, a group of professional players from first, second and third division Italian leagues.

The team buses to Florence on Wednesday, Aug. 19 - stopping to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa along the way - and plays on Thursday, Aug. 20 against BE Atletas, a Lithuanian professional team (6:30 PM, 12:30 PM ET.)

The tour continues to Milan and on Saturday, Aug. 22, the Hoyas will play their final game against Sam Basket Massagno, a Swiss team, in Lugano, Switzerland (6:30 PM, 12:30 PM ET.)
