Ian McKellen stars in Mr. Holmes |
The Prodigal Returns
IMDb Plot: An aged, retired Sherlock Holmes (Ian McKellen) looks back on his life, and grapples with an unsolved case involving a beautiful woman.
"One shouldn't leave this life without a sense of completion." Sage advice, dispensed with calculated resolve by McKellen's Holmes. Few movies match the low-key charm and elegance on display in Bill Condon's Mr. Holmes, a film perhaps best characterized as "a race against time." Holmes, 93 "can't solve everything," but with the help of young Roger (Milo Parker) embarks on the final chapter of a storied career. It may not have "Watson's imaginative license," but Mr. Holmes manages to hold your attention without overreaching its mark. McKellen's fantastic (Parker too) and Condon wisely leaves it at that. Less is more.
