From our friends at GW Athletics...

Colonials to Face Four NCAA Tournament Teams

The George Washington volleyball team will face four NCAA tournament teams and host both the annual GW Invitational and the Atlantic 10 Championship as part of its 2015 schedule, head coach Amanda Ault has announced.

The Colonials will participate in a quartet of non-conference tournaments to open their 2015 schedule, beginning with three matches at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan. GW will face the host Wolverines in its season opener on August 28 before playing West Virginia and Oakland on August 29.

GW will face the first of four 2014 NCAA Tournament participants when it welcomes Oregon to the Charles E. Smith Center for its home opener on September 2. The Ducks advanced to the Elite 8 of last season’s tournament.

The Colonials will host the annual George Washington Invitational the following weekend at the Smith Center. GW will open the tournament against Princeton on the morning of September 4 before facing UC Davis in the nightcap. GW concludes the tournament on Saturday against Radford.

The following weekend the Colonials will make the short trip to Annapolis, Maryland, to compete in the Kristen Dickmann Invitational. GW opens the event against host Navy on Friday, September 11, before facing Maryland and Texas Tech on September 12.

GW will renew its rivalry with Georgetown in a non-conference match at McDonough Arena on September 15 before heading to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for the Panther Invitational Tournament against Lehigh (Sept. 18), Bowling Green (Sept. 19) and host Pittsburgh (Sept. 19).

The Colonials host Loyola in a non-conference match at the Smith Center on September 22 before opening its Atlantic 10 schedule and renewing the Revolutionary Rivalry against George Mason on September 25.

GW’s first conference road trip comes the following weekend with visits to VCU (Oct. 2) and Davidson (Oct. 4).

The Colonials will host the two teams they played in last year’s Atlantic 10 Championship on the weekend of October 9. GW will take on Saint Louis on October 9 before an Atlantic 10 Championship rematch against reigning champion and NCAA Tournament participant Dayton on October 10.

The Colonials will conclude their non-conference schedule when it hosts NCAA Tournament participant American at the Smith Center on October 21. GW has defeated American in the past two meetings between the teams.

Additional home A-10 matches include Rhode Island (Oct. 23), Fordham (Oct. 24), Duquesne (Nov. 13) and La Salle (Nov. 14) while road matches are slated at La Salle (Oct. 16), Duquesne (Oct. 18), George Mason (Oct. 31), Dayton (Nov. 6) and Saint Louis (Nov. 8).

The Atlantic 10 Championship returns to the Charles E. Smith Center for the fifth time, November 20-22. The Smith Center previously hosted the A-10 Championship in 2013, 1991, 1989 and 1983.

The top six teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the tournament with the top two seeds receiving first-round byes.
