Eight Out of Top 10 Men's Doubles Teams in the World to Compete at Citi Open Tennis Tournament

Dynamic Field Includes Two Most Recent Grand Slam Champion Teams

Eight out of the current top ten ranked men’s doubles teams in the world will play at this year’s Citi Open Tennis Tournament, August 1-9 at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center.

Nine of the world’s top ranked doubles players are included, including Bob and Mike Bryan, with a record 106 titles, and the year-end No. 1-ranked doubles team 10 out of the last 12 years. The American twins lead the field that includes the two most recent Grand Slam doubles champions - Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo, who are 2015 French Open champions, and Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau, 2015 Wimbledon champions and the ATP World Tour’s current No. 1 ranked doubles team. Rojer and Tecau are also the Citi Open’s defending men’s doubles champions.

Men’s singles top seed Andy Murray teams up with Daniel Nestor, one of the all-time greatest doubles players. Jamie Murray and John Peers, 2015 Wimbledon runners-up, will also compete, setting up the potential for a Murray brothers match-up.

2014 Wimbledon doubles champions Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock will also compete. Pospisil reached the Citi Open singles final last year, in the first all-Canadian ATP World Tour final.

Two fan favorites that will make their final appearances as ATP players in Washington will also be competing in the doubles field. Mardy Fish, who just announced that the U.S. Open will be his final professional event, will partner with Grigor Dimitrov. Fresh from their thrilling Davis Cup win, Lleyton Hewitt, who will retire after the 2016 Australian Open, will receive a wild card entry into the main draw with fellow Aussie Sam Groth.

Rounding out the main draw entrants are Rohan Bopanna and Florin MergeaMarcin Matkowski and Nenad ZimonjicAlexander Peya and Bruno Soares; and Pablo Cuevas and David Marerro. The women’s doubles field will be announced at a later date.

The Citi Open Box Office at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center will open for walk-up sales starting Saturday, August 1 at 8 AM.

The Citi Open, the Capital Tennis Tradition, is one of only 13 elite ATP World Tour 500-level events worldwide and the only one held in the United States. The Citi Open Tournament also features a WTA International Tournament since 2012, which provides fans the opportunity to watch simultaneous competitions of both world-class men’s and women’s tennis throughout the nine-day event. It is one of only four U.S. tournaments that include both men’s and women’s fields.
