Yes, it's true: The third time
is the charm. Several thousand area foodies descended upon the Penn Quarter last night, armed with healthy appetites and ready to party. What for? The third annual
Dine-N-Dash, hosted by the unofficial "King of DC,"
José Andrés, to benefit
World Central Kitchen. It was my first time attending; and all I can say is, "Wow!" After collecting my official wristband at
Ping Pong, I took off on a literal "mad dash" of a dozen top-flight restaurants, including
Del Campo,
Jaleo and
Poste. Sadly, I only had
one of the three hours allotted to feast (opening night for
Newsies at the
National) but thanks to some clever time management and nimble feet, I was able to zip in to all 12 venues. Top bite honors go to Del Campo's
Victor Albisu, fresh off Sunday's 2015 Chef of the Year award at the
RAMMYs. The night concluded with (more) drinks, desserts and live music at the majestic
Carnegie Library at Mount Vernon Square. Word has it, over $300,000 was raised for the World Central Kitchen. Way to go
everybody!
