Grigor Dimitrov Commits to Play in Citi Open Tennis Tournament

Rest of ATP World Tour 500 tournament player field to be released week of June 22

Grigor Dimitrov, world No. 11 has committed to play in the 2015 Citi Open Tennis Tournament, the Capital Tennis Tradition. Dimitrov joins previously announced World No. 3 Andy Murray, World No. 5 Kei Nishikori, and former World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt in what is expected to be one of the tournament’s best player field’s in it’s 47-year history in the District of Columbia.

The Citi Open Tournament is scheduled for August 1-9, 2015, at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington, DC. The full player field will be released the week of June 22.

Since turning pro in 2008, the 24-year-old from Bulgaria has won four titles and reached a career-high ranking of No. 8 on the ATP World Tour which he achieved in August 2014, shortly after reaching the semifinals of Wimbledon. Dimitrov is the most successful Bulgarian male tennis player, both in terms of ranking reached - he is the only Bulgarian tennis player ever to be ranked inside the top 10 of the ATP World Tour singles rankings - and prize money won. He is currently playing at the Queen’s Club in London, defending his 2014 title.

The Citi Open Tournament is one of only 13 elite ATP World Tour 500-level events worldwide and the only one held in the United States. The Citi Open Tournament also features a WTA International Tournament, which provides fans the opportunity to watch simultaneous competitions of both world-class men’s and women’s tennis throughout the nine-day event. It is one of only four U.S. tournaments that include both men’s and women’s fields.

The tournament’s owner and beneficiary, the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF), provides underserved children in the DC-area with a safe environment to learn critical life skills both on and off the courts through academic and athletic enrichment.
