One year shy of its 50th anniversary, the
Smithsonian Folklife Festival decided to shift gears... narrowing its focus to just one country (Peru.) After a star-studded Opening Ceremony at the
National Museum of the American Indian's Rasmuson Theater, the Festival kicked off in
earnest just after noon today: Check out our photo recap; and make sure to head down to the National Mall, to experience it for yourself. The Festival is set to run through Sunday, July 5th with a two-day break in between (June 29-30.)
